Chapter 3 Documents

Which statement of Tacitus might you regard as reliable, and which are more suspect? Why? I do not think that we can take any statements from Tacitus as reliable except for statements that are purely factual. This is because it states that Tacitus never visited the lands of the people he described. He only relied on others works of writing and story telling.  We cannot regard him as reliable becuase we do not even know if there is any credibility in his statements.

Chinese Empire

In this blog about chapter 3 I read the chapter but personally I would like to focus on the rise and fall of the Chinese empire, because I am more intrigued in the history of China based on my culture. China was one of the first civilizations which was ruled under the Xia, Shang and Zhou dynasty, but at this time China was known as a warring state. China was saved by Qin Shihuang who wanted to reunify the Chinese empire. He seemed to have succeed, and I think this was because the Chinese believed in a moral force ("Heaven") that helped regulate the universe.  Unlike the Roman empire the Chinese empire took much less time to build. The Shihuang dynasty did not last long, but after the Han dynasty followed, during the Han dynasty helped to moderate the harshness of the policies that Qin Shihuang created . The Han dynasty focused more on Confucianism, which was introduced my the Chinese philosopher Confucius. The Han dynasty established the political patterns that lasted into th...

Dancing Girl

From the images that are pictured in the Working with Evidence section I chose to focus on source 2.3. In source 2.3 it is a figurine of a women from this statue we can see that women are viewed as beautiful and amazing beings. From this statue I can assume that this women holds some type of power or wealth, she is wearing a lot of jewelry, but I am unsure on why she has no clothes on. She has her head held up high with her chin in the air so she is powerful and confident all at once.

First Civilizations

In reading Chapter 2 we learn how civilization emerged from the agricultural revolution. Due to agriculture there was an abundance of food, enough to support growing communities. As agriculture grew so did the population, when population began to grow so humans created civilizations. In the text we see that within these civilizations inequality began among genders and male power began to grow. Social classes began to grow creating more separation between the wealthy and the poor. The wealthy had more rights than the poor, but what I found interested was that the even though there was gender inequality the wealthy women had more rights in these new found "civilizations." As time went on we know that women were stripped of their rights, which is still something that women are fighting for today. Social classes still exist because people with more money have more power over the people who stand lower on the social ladder.

Neolithic Revolution and the development of agriculture

In the second part of Chapter 1 it talks about how agriculture created a new way of life. Agriculture began the domestication of many animals and plants, they became reliant on human action and protection. Climate change also had a lot to do with the Agricultural Revolution, because it caused many mammals to go extinct so homo sapiens had to find another way to find food and to live their lives. With agriculture becoming more popular the population increased so it was required to help support growing populations. Technology also played a big part of the agricultural revolution in the being horticulture was the bets technology because plows had yet to be created, but using animals manure to support their agricultural helps farmers and herbers. Their were 14 species that were domesticated the 4  most important animals were pigs, sheep, goats and horses, without these animals american lacked protein, fertilizer and power. As agriculture grew world wide so did the population, world pop...
