In this blog about chapter 3 I read the chapter but personally I would like to focus on the rise and fall of the Chinese empire, because I am more intrigued in the history of China based on my culture. China was one of the first civilizations which was ruled under the Xia, Shang and Zhou dynasty, but at this time China was known as a warring state. China was saved by Qin Shihuang who wanted to reunify the Chinese empire. He seemed to have succeed, and I think this was because the Chinese believed in a moral force ("Heaven") that helped regulate the universe. Unlike the Roman empire the Chinese empire took much less time to build. The Shihuang dynasty did not last long, but after the Han dynasty followed, during the Han dynasty helped to moderate the harshness of the policies that Qin Shihuang created . The Han dynasty focused more on Confucianism, which was introduced my the Chinese philosopher Confucius. The Han dynasty established the political patterns that lasted into the twentieth century. I think it lasted so long, because Confucianism focused on bringing harmony to everyone which is a very important social value.
Which statement of Tacitus might you regard as reliable, and which are more suspect? Why? I do not think that we can take any statements from Tacitus as reliable except for statements that are purely factual. This is because it states that Tacitus never visited the lands of the people he described. He only relied on others works of writing and story telling. We cannot regard him as reliable becuase we do not even know if there is any credibility in his statements.
